FOLKLORO ARCHYVAS

The Centre of Folklore and Ethnography of Etnic Minorities in Lithuania has accumulated a unique, exceptional value archive of musical folklore of various nations, one of the largest in Lithuania, which is constantly updated with new material. Over the years, the specialists and partners of the Center have collected and recorded examples of authentic folklore - musical folklore, household traditions, customs, ceremonies. The Centre's archive also contains records of national and international folklore festivals, master classes, round tables, conferences, concerts in Lithuania and abroad, as well as unique records of creative meetings with famous Lithuanian and foreign folklore specialists.

In recent years, the number of inquiries regarding access to archival material of musical folklore has increased significantly. Taking into account the growing interest in archival material, the aim is to make the musical folklore accumulated at the Centre of Folklore and Ethnography of Etnic Minorities in Lithuania more accessible and more efficiently used, and to enter the general context of the cultural heritage accumulated by the institutions.

The users of this material are Lithuanian and foreign researchers from various fields of ethnic culture, leaders and members of folklore ensembles, teachers, cultural workers, professional art creators, other promoters of ethnic culture and persons interested in the country's traditions and cultural identity. An important partner of the Center is the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater.
