“Music for Connoisseurs” on the 7th of November
From November 5 to 9, Vilnius will host the jubilee 20th edition of the international folklore festival “Pokrov Bells.” This event, which combines cultural, scholarly, and educational dimensions, has long held a unique place in the cultural life of Lithuania’s capital. This anniversary year, the Festival also celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of M. K. Čiurlionis.
On November 7 at 6:00 PM, in the Church of St. Catherine the concert “Music for Connoisseurs”, a traditional highlight of the Pokrov Bells Festival, will be presented. Audiences will be treated to the beauty of unique examples of folk songs and traditional choreography performed by folklore ensembles from Armenia, Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia, Spain, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, and multiethnic Lithuania.
A distinctive feature of the Festival is its deep respect for traditional folklore and cultural heritage elements protected by UNESCO. Among the cultural treasures to be presented are Armenian duduk music, the archaic vocal polyphony of Latvia’s Selonia region, Ukrainian Cossack songs, Lithuanian sutartinės, traditional Georgian polyphony, everyday songs of Lithuanian Old Believers, and many other traditions of multiethnic Lithuania. This is just part of what the audience will experience during the festival.
