The Pokrov Bells International Folklore Festival is one of the oldest ethnic community cultural events in Lithuania, running since 2006. The name of the festival is associated with the Orthodox Feast of Pokrov, symbolizing spiritual protection, continuity of tradition and community. Over two decades, the festival has become a significant cultural platform showcasing not only the folklore of Lithuania's national minorities but also guest artists from more than 30 countries worldwide – from Georgia, Armenia, and Ukraine to India, Mexico, and Japan. The festival combines concerts, conferences, traditional singing workshops, educational events as well as World Music projects.
This year’s festival is solemnly opened with a concert that unites folklore, jazz, and contemporary symphonic music. The concert belongs to the World Music genre – a global musical direction that creatively blends ethnic heritage from various cultures with modern musical styles. The program will feature an exceptional work by composer Jievaras Jasinskis titled “ORERO”, based on Georgian folklore motifs, as well as the symphonic poem “Dedication to Čiurlionis”, receiving its world premiere and dedicated to one of the most prominent figures in Lithuanian culture – Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. This composition is a musical tribute to Čiurlionis’s visionary creativity, combining musical codes of different nations, improvisation and modern orchestration. On stage – a unique lineup of performers, uniting Lithuanian and Georgian musicians.
The opening concert of the festival is not only an outstanding musical event but also a meaningful cultural dialogue between nations, styles and epochs. It is dedicated to those who seek uncommon soundscapes, deep emotion and cultural meaning.
